Students Celebrate Molière's Big 4-0-0

Kansas City celebrated the 400th birthday of French playwright Molière this week, and Barstow students were part of the party.
Members of Barstow's French Honor Society and French Club attended "M de Molière" at the MET@Warwick on Saturday, April 30. The original play by French writer and actor Jèrôme Pouly  incorporates scenes from Molière's famous comedies. It was presented by KC MOlière: 400 in 2022. The three year celebration acknowledges the work of a playwright often called "the French Shakespeare."

"The Alliance Francaise has been waiting for this event for months and it is quite a privilege to see Jèrôme Pouly in Kansas City," French teacher Anne Hyvrard said. "This is a really cool event and I am  thrilled and proud that my students decided to participate."

Student also wrote welcome notes and made posters for Pouly's arrival at at Kansas City International Airport last week. And on Wednesday, May 4, the actor visited Barstow and spoke with students about Molière's work. The conversation took place in French, and Madame Hyvrard spoke highly of her students ability to understand the comedy and ask and answer questions about "M de Molière."
