Student-Organized Dinner Supports Ukraine Students
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the fundraising dinner to help students in Ukraine on Monday, May 2. The event, organized by sophomore Izzi Osman, raised more than $2,000 for emergency educational expenses.
Osman came up the fundraising to assist students in Ukraine whose education is being disrupted by the war with Russia.
Barstow's partner school, Lycèe Anne de Kiev, is no longer operational because of the fighting. The Barstow School is now working with a partner organization, Alekom Education in Kyiv, to provide continuing educational resources to students.
Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn was among the many guests who attended the dinner. Upper school students and parents volunteered, and attendees were asked to write supportive messages on paper sunflowers, the are national flower of Ukraine. They will be displaced at Barstow and a photo of the flowers will be sent along with the donation.
On Tuesday, May 10, second grade students will complete their economics unit by holding lemonade stands at 2 p.m. in the Senior Circle. Proceeds from that event will also be donated to Ukraine students.
