Robotics Team Wins International Award

FIRST Robotics announced on Thursday, Feb. 3 that Barstow's robotics team, FRC 1939 - The Kuhnigits, have been named the winners of the 2022 Safety Animation Award! This is a world-wide competition, sponsored by Underwriter's Laboratory.
Congratulations to freshman Ethan Wood who headed up the project, with help from freshman Amelia Beagle, sophomore Jack Cuezze and junior Alex White. The students used stop-motion animation, computer aided design, 3D printing, graphic design and video editing STEAM skills to create their project.

As the winners of this year's Safety Animation Award, the team's video will be played at every FIRST Robotics Competition event globally throughout the 2022 season! The team will receive a trophy at the FRC Greater Kansas City Regional competition in March.

The theme for this year was "Faster, Farther, Safer!" For the 2022 Safety Animation Award, teams were challenged to demonstrate, through animation, their vision of the future of transportation, and how innovative, efficient and sustainable technologies will help people and cargo move about faster and farther than ever before. How can we ensure that these new methods of transportation are safe for people — and our planet? Teams were also challenged to include their team's robot as a character in the animation, which the team used as a delivery robot at the end of the animation.
