Middle School FLL Team Headed to Regionals

Middle school FIRST Lego League teams competed at Olathe Northwest High School on Saturday, Nov. 20 — and one of them is moving on to regionals.
Eighteen teams battled for five spots in FLL regional competition. Each team participated in three rounds of robotics competitions and presented their innovation and core values projects to panels of judges. Barstow teams displayed perseverance, confidence and professionalism throughout the competition.

The Knights Who Say “Ni!” (Lia Levin, Maaz Hawa, Duha Azaz, John McKinney, Syd Westphal, Josh Bourke, Deuce Chanos, and Layla Love) will compete at regionals on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Crown Center.

The team of Penelope Huston, Quincy Stribling, Vince Huppe, Aimen Zehra, Fin Geraghty, Mohammad Abu Bakr, Eric Xi, and Aditya Rastogi earned the Motivate Award, which “celebrates a team that embraces the culture of FIRST Lego League through team building, team spirit and displayed enthusiasm.”

The third team, made up of Abraham Gruber, Adit Reddy, Avalee Flores, Landon Brown, Carlos Salazar and Emily Smith did not receive an award, but their sponsors are very impressed with what the team did accomplish.

"Mrs. Thornburgh and I are very proud of them for overcoming obstacles this season. From losing two teammates to last-minute dead robot batteries, this team faced the most obstacles of any of our teams and did so with grace," Amanda Lea said.
