Athletic & Admission Events Draw Hundreds to Campus

The afternoon began with district tennis action. The girls team had the home court advantage and sailed past Belton to advance to district finals. With match play still underway, more than 100 runners from 12 area schools were warming up for the inaugural Matt Gannon Invitational Cross Country Meet. The event is named after the late coach and faculty member, who passed away from sudden cardiac arrest in 2019. Coach Gannon's mother, Kristin, provided information to runners about condition and handed our T-shirts to Mr. Gannon's former students and athletes. 

Inside the building, families arrived for Middle & Upper School Information Night, an event hosted by the admissions office to introduce rising fifth and eighth grade students and parents to the next division at Barstow. Current and prospective students tried hands-on activities and heard from faculty members about what makes the Barstow experience unique among area schools —rigorous and engaging lessons, and innovative ways of teaching science, math and the humanities, and lots of individualized attention and support from teachers. 

The evening was capped off by the annual Pink Out volleyball game and varsity soccer. Parent volunteers set up an amazing pink-themed concession stand, students enjoyed a pizza party, and seniors on the volleyball team were celebrated before taking the court against Heritage Christian. Pink Out raises money for breast cancer research through T-shirt sales, concessions and gate fees. This year, Barstow donated its highest amount ever — $1,765 for the Susan G. Komen organization.
