Matt Gannon Remembered During Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month

Matt Gannon, the late middle school teacher and cross country coach, will be remembered at events throughout October in observance of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month.
Gannon passed away from the condition in 2019. He also worked for Summer at Barstow for three years and his siblings, Kristen and Tommy, graduated from Barstow in 2017 and 2020.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month activities include an opening address for middle & upper school students by cardiologist Dr. Zafir Hawa on Friday, Oct. 1, and a cross country meet named in Gannon's honor. Mr. Gannon's mother, Kristin, will be at the meet to provide information to participating athletes about sudden cardiac arrest.

Later this month, middle and upper school students will receive basic CPR education, and learn about the automated external defibrillators located around the school.
