Villanelle, Somehow

Jed Scott
Departing for the tea colored, violet cloud checked sky
My soul shakes off the dust of the ages
The doux, endless, chatoyant aerial sea that I ply

Through a thousand feverish worlds of dreaming I fly
Below me spires of glass and split rows appear like cages
Departing for the tea colored, violet cloud checked sky

Content in the prismatic reflection of the sun I can die
I find myself here on each of life’s chapters final pages
The doux, endless, chatoyant aerial sea that I ply

Once again I find myself escaping to my liminal home up high
Ever forgetting the more poignant words of the sages
Departing for the tea colored, violet cloud checked sky

As I look back at my latest misadventures and mistakes I sigh
Forever brooding over my past I return here to rage
The doux, endless, chatoyant aerial sea that I ply

Though through it all there’s yet hope I spy
The rushing wind and blazing horizon my heart assuage
Departing for the tea colored, violet cloud checked sky
The doux, endless, chatoyant aerial sea that I ply.
