Freshman Richey King took 5th place in the Missouri State Tennis Singles Championship Tournament on May 25. Richey faced off against a talented field of Missouri tennis players and proved himself as the best singles player on the west half of the state. After a razor close first round loss against a tough St Louis area player, Richey went on to roll through the next four rounds. He finished as the only player besides the eventual State champion (containing classes 1-3) to finish with 4 consecutive wins in the entire tournament. In the second round Richey defeated a tough lefty from Sikeston, 6-2, 6-1. In the third round he took out the Thomas Jefferson opponent 6-0, 6-3. Richey came out strong in his fourth match dominating an outstanding singles opponent from St Michael’s 6-1, 6-2. To finish the weekend competition strong for his fourth consecutive victory, Richey rolled to the medal stand against a hard hitting player from Warrensburg with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win. Richey finished the season with an impressive 22-2 singles record, none of which came to any KC area opponents. Congratulations to Richey King on an outstanding Freshman tennis season as a Barstow Knight.
