The Barstow girls tennis team made quick work of Maranatha on Tuesday afternoon with an 8-1 win. In the doubles competition the Knights swept all three matches. In #1 doubles, Sonya Shkuta and Anya Stanojevic combined strong service returns with their own steady, strong serves to roll to an 8-0 win. At #2 doubles, Duha Azaz and Emilia Prier were pressed early but broke open the match at 4-3 and eventually winning 4 of the next 5 games for an 8-4 victory. Both girls served well and owned the net, forcing their opponent back to their own defensive baseline.
At #3 doubles, Mira Gupta and Mara Hughes still struggled early with nerves, but relaxed late to open up their games and became more aggressive at the net to pull out a tiebreaker win,
8-7 (8-6) victory. Congrats girls, on to Blue Springs on Thursday (SENIOR NIGHT) and finally St. Michael's on. Friday.
