Theatre Students Experience "Come From Away" at KCRep
Performing arts students in Jason Chanos’ theatre classes attended a performance of the musical “Come From Away” by Irene Sankoff and David Hein at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 10. The performance comes 25 years after the events of September 11, 2001.
The musical tells the story of nearly 7,000 passengers on 38 planes that were diverted to the airport in Gander, Newfoundland, a town of about 10,000 residents on September 11, 2001. Rather than focusing on the destruction and tragedy that occurred, “Come From Away” encourages audiences to consider the power of community and the choices that people make when the world around them changes unexpectedly.
After the performance, students had the opportunity to meet with the director, several actors and crew members for a discussion.
The show runs through Sept. 20 at the KCRep Spencer Theatre.
