Fourth and Fifth Graders Get Ready for Science Challenge
Fourth and fifth grade classes visited Science City this week in preparation for an exciting challenge. This fall, they will participate in the Battle of the Brains, a competition for K-12 students in the Kansas City area that involves designing a new STEM-inspired exhibit for Science City.
This challenge requires a clear and creative concept, a written cover letter and constructability statement, visual design elements and a cost estimate for materials needed to build the exhibit. Students will create a floor plan, designs for interactive components and a billboard and video commercial to advertise their exhibit.
Past winners include an interactive Light Lab, an exhibit about the properties of water and an outdoor space with simple machine-inspired playground equipment.

Students will work on this project through the submission due date in November. The winning exhibit will be installed in 2026.
