The Best School Year is About to Begin
On behalf of the faculty, staff and trustees of The Barstow School, welcome to the 2026-2027 school year. We've had quite a summer! Thanks to your votes, Barstow earned a record six Kansas City Favorites awards — proving once again that we are the premier independent school in the metro. We are nearing completion of an overhaul of our middle and upper school science labs. And we welcomed new faculty and staff who are excited to begin teaching our students on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Science Classroom Upgrades
Middle & upper school students will have greater opportunities for hands-on science learning in our renovated Chemistry, Environmental Science and Physics laboratories. We are extremely grateful to a group of dedicated donors for supporting this $600,000 project.
Kindergarten Enrollment
In response to the increased interest in our early childhood program, we have added a fourth section of kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year. Because the School remains deeply committed to small class sizes and individualized instruction, preschool-grade 2 classrooms are capped at 17 students. Barstow has often added additional class sections to various lower school grade levels in response to enrollment trends. In every case, it has been beneficial to both the School and our students. We are excited to welcome our new kindergartners and families!
Barstow Night at Sporting Kansas City Park
Our summer of soccer isn't over yet! Join us for Barstow Night at Sporting Kansas City Park on Saturday, Aug. 29. As an official Center Circle partner of Kansas City's professional soccer team, we're hosting pre-match activities on the plaza, escorting players onto the pitch and providing surprise halftime entertainment during the Kansas City-Vancouver game. We welcome all current families and students and are excited to meet families interested in learning more about the best independent school in the Kansas City metro. Come by are activity center on the plaza and say hello! General admission tickets to the game will be available here with a special Barstow discount code August 1.
