Combined Student Council Connects Divisions

A combined all-school Student Council convened Friday, Nov. 6, marking another opportunity for students to model leadership, collaboration and community-building for their classmates across every division.
Led by senior student council leaders Nora Culver, Sydney Westphal and Conor Westphal, the  inaugural meeting focused on bringing back a Barstow favorite: the Thanksgiving assembly.

Students in grades 3–12 are working together to plan an all-school observance on Friday, Nov. 20. The assembly will celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving through music, poetry and the sharing of family traditions, creating an opportunity for students across grade levels to connect and reflect on the many ways their families celebrate the holiday.

Division directors and faculty advisors helped organize the group, but the vision is for the council to be student-led, empowering them to take ownership of planning meaningful experiences for the broader Barstow community. The council aims to meet four times throughout the school year. Student Council is one of many leadership opportunities available to Barstow students in every division, encouraging them to find their voices, work collaboratively and make a positive impact on their school community.
