Upper and middle school debate teams both celebrated victories this week, with tournament success for middle schoolers and state qualification for the upper school team.
The middle school debate team attended the City Championship tournament hosted by DEBATE-KC on Saturday, Feb. 28. Seventh grader Krish Iyer took first place in Student Congress. All participating Barstow students reached the finals.

Third place – Keira Cullan, grade 7
Fourth place – Jahnavi Kakarala, grade 7
Eighth place – Ivaan Pampalli, grade 6
Top 20 – Cervente Sudduth, grade 6
The upper school debate team competed at the MSHSAA District Debate Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 28, and qualified all four entries to the state tournament. They won first place in sweepstakes points, earning the district debate championship.
Junior Rex Parker and freshman Gui Tabuchi won first in Policy Debate. Seniors Darin Goodman and Aun Hathiari took second. Freshman Venkat Gogineni placed first in Lincoln-Douglas Debate; freshman Maya Parker placed second.
The team will compete for a state title at the Missouri State Speech and Debate Championship Tournament on April 24-26 at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
