Design & Fabrication Facilitator - IDEA Space KC

 GENERAL INFORMATION
The Barstow School is seeking the inaugural Design & Fabrication Facilitator at IDEA Space KC to complete the full time staff building and teaching STEAM curriculum to students and teachers across the Kansas City area, growing their comfort and confidence in STEAM-related fields.  The facilitator’s time is split as follows:
Curriculum Development -- 15%
Curriculum Delivery -- 60%
Supplies and equipment oversight -- 25%
 
DUTIES
Curriculum Development and Delivery
  • Review existing courses and update as needed
  • Propose new courses aligned to career development pathways and Workplace Agilities
  • Teach co-curricular courses
  • Supervise contract teachers and teaching assistants for evening, weekend and summer courses
  • Develop and implement safety protocols
  • Some evenings and weekends required
 
Supplies and equipment oversight
  • Provide regular maintenance and update of IDEA Space fabrication and technology equipment including
    • Woodworking power tools
    • Metalworking power tools
    • CNC Routing tools (3)
    • VR Equipment (5 headsets, 1 360 camera)
    • Paint Room tools
    • Hand tools
    • Maintain health and safety records as required by law.
    • Maintains all service records and warranty information for fabrication equipment
    • Submit and track all equipment help desk requests
    • Order, track store, and replenish all fabrication consumable supplies
    • Conduct annual inventory audit
 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal individual to join the inaugural team at IDEA Space KC will possess:
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and a growth mindset
  • Undergraduate degree or comparable skills and knowledge in education, engineering, advanced manufacturing, construction, woodworking, metalworking, digital design, architecture,entrepreneurship, or a related field
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for STEAM learning
  • Respect and appreciation for the needs and potential of diverse learners from a variety of backgrounds
  • Student centered educational philosophy
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with K-12 learners
  • Experience with:
    • Design Thinking
    • Digital fabrication
    • Woodworking techniques and equipment
    • Metalworking techniques and equipment
    • HazMat protocols
    • Curriculum Development
