Inclusion, Diversity + Equity

The Barstow School is committed to building and sustaining a school community that highly values inclusion and diversity, embraces cultural awareness, supports racial equity and justice, and promotes equal opportunities for all.
Our Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (ID+E) Committee is charged with examining all aspects of school culture to ensure that our mission and values are applied equally to every student, family, faculty and staff member.

During the summer of 2020, members of the expanded Barstow Diversity Committee began examining practices including, but not limited, to admission and employment practices, curriculum and outreach. The committee made recommendations to the administration and Board of Trustees and assisted with the implementation of sustainable practices that promote positive change.

Our Commitment

The Barstow School’s legacy of commitment to our core values of inclusion, diversity and equity dates back to our founding in 1884.
Our journey began with a groundbreaking vision as we opened our doors to young women, offering them the opportunity to receive a world-class education at a time when such opportunities were scarce. From that historic day to the present, The Barstow School has remained resolutely devoted to the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity. We continue to champion these ideals, ensuring that every student and family finds in our community a place that cares deeply about their well-being and stands in support of their dreams. Join us as we continue to uphold this enduring tradition of inclusivity and equity for all.
