Although MicroVision has been a sleeping giant for the past few years, this new technology will be its reawakening.

Laser technology company MicroVision (MVIS) has recently undergone several substantial updates regarding its new Lidar technology. Lidar, which stands for light detection and ranging software, is an up-and-coming field of innovation. The sector’s primary objective is to create a level 4 autonomous vehicle.

“This equates to 520 points per square degree. Our LRL Sensor will also output velocity of moving objects relative to an ego vehicle across our dynamic field of view in real-time 30 Hz sensor output. This sensor would accelerate development of Level 3 (L3) autonomous safety and Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving features that are important to potential customers and interested parties.”  This development means that unlike Tesla's current level of autonomous vehicle (Level 2), this technology will be safe enough to have no hands on a steering wheel.
MicroVision’s recent press release highlighted the key elements of its new Lidar software, which boasts capabilities and components that surpass any other current technology. This position puts the company in a great position since its current market cap is lower than many other prominent lidar companies. The promising application has garnered more investors in MicroVision and increased its stock price.

“We expect our 1st generation LRL Sensor to have range of at least 250 meters and the highest resolution at range of any lidar with 340 vertical lines up to 250 meters, 568 vertical lines up to 120 meters and 944 vertical lines up to 60 meters.” Its promising applications caused share prices to skyrocket on February 10 during after-hour trading. Its 50% increase is “Just the beginning,” according to major shareholder Brent Awbrey. This company is certainly on the rise.

This news is very good for shareholders because of the rumors that have spread throughout the past few months, including a potential Apple buyout. Since the company (AAPL) has been working on their Lidar full self-driving cars, and MVIS has the patents and technology, if AAPL decides to purchase the company, share prices will skyrocket. This buyout is what shareholders are looking and waiting for because this would result in this company’s market cap increasing by up to 10 times.
