Andrew Cuomo COVID-19 Coverup

The New York governor has been brought into the limelight of the media regarding his coverup of COVID-19 in nursing homes.

In November of 2020, New York governor Andrew Cuomo was awarded an Emmy Award for “his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic and his masterful use of TV to inform and calm people around the world.” We now know that the number of cases in New York being reported were only a fraction of the actual numbers.

New York deliberately kept the true COVID-19 positive numbers from the Democratic Party’s leadership, according to Melissa DeRosa, the governor’s top aid. DeRosa told the New York Post that the administration wasn’t sure if the information “was going to be used against us” or “if there was going to be an investigation.”

Towards the beginning of the pandemic, nursing homes were overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases as the New York Department of Health refused to let these homes reject patients. As a result, nursing homes became hotspots for the virus. State Attorney General Letitia James released a report about how the nursing homes handled COVID-19.

Within her research, she published two findings. First, that “a larger number of nursing home residents died from COVID-19” than the official data released reflected. Second, that the New York health department “requiring the admission of COVID-19 patients into nursing homes may have put residents at increased risk of harm in some facilities and may have obscured the data available to assess that risk.”

Though the evidence seems clear-cut, it remains to be seen whether the New York governor will be held accountable. The investigation is ongoing.
