YEAR BEGINS WITH DEBATE TOC BID AND NOVICE SWEEP

The second half of another successful debate began in Omaha, Nebraska, and Nashville, Tennessee, on Jan. 4-7. Debaters brought home another Tournament of Champions bid and a pair of impressive Novice division sweeps.
 
John Lubianetsky and Amanda Munsell, junior, made it to the finals at the Omaha Westside Tournament and secured their first TOC bid. Munsell was also fifth speaker. Phoebe Brous, sophomore, was third speaker. Solomon Park, senior, and Noah Waldman, sophomore, reached the semifinals.
 
In Novice debate, freshmen Maddie Bauman and Hunter Jackson came in first, followed by Avisha Pandey and Faizan Khalid, second, Isa Herrera and Ayushi Kothari, third, and Carolyn Fry and Megha Gunapati, fourth.
 
Bauman also won the top speaker award, followed by Pandey, second, Jackson, third, Kothari, fourth, and Khalid, fifth.
 
Meanwhile in Nashville, Shaunak Lokre, senior, earned 12th speaker honors at the Montgomery Bell Academy Tournament. Both Barstow teams ended 3-3 at MBA.
