FACULTY FOCUS: DR. CAROLINE KILL WRITES COMPETENCY BASED EDUCATION BOOK
A Barstow faculty member is using her expertise to help independent schools and nonprofit organizations understand and integrate Competency Based Education principles into their schools and agencies.
Dr. Caroline Kill, Barstow’s Director of Curriculum and Pedagogy, wrote an eBook during the summer. It will be published online late this year or early in 2019 by Blackbaud, the learning management software system utilized by Barstow and independent schools across the country.
Competency Based Education is a system of instruction, grading and academic reporting that are based on students demonstrating they have learned the knowledge and skills they are expected to learn as they progress through their education. According to the think tank Great Schools Partnership the goal is to ensure students are acquiring the education essentials for success in school, higher education and careers.
In addition to authoring the eBook, Dr. Kill will also lead a webinar and podcast and write a blog on the emerging field of Competency Based Education.
