Art and Spanish Combine in Cross-Cultural Experience

Upper school Spanish and art students took a co-curricular and cross-cultural field trip to Mattie Rhodes Center and Taqueria Mexico to learn about the Mexican traditions of Dia de los Meurtos.
Mallory Hilvitz’s Painting 1 and 2, Honors Drawing and Painting, and Honors Photography students joined and Amanda Marvin's AP Spanish class viewed ofrendas, collections of objects placed on altar during the annual celebration, and made Dia de los Muertos crafts.

Mrs. Marvin's class will make their own ofrendas based on what they observed and learned on the field trip. Mrs. Hilvitz’s painting class will make their own Dia de los Muertos paintings. The students are learning a process for drawing the human form, while incorporating designs and elements from the Mexican culture on canvas.
