Tennis Advances to State Final Four

The boys tennis team faced a tough opponent from Jefferson City on Monday, May 16, and dominated the day with another 5-0 win. 
At #1 doubles Richey King and George Colombo made it a day of short points. with strong first serves and dominating net play for an 8-1 win.  At #2 doubles,  Bobby King and Sankeerth Gandhari did the same with a smothering net game for an 8-1 win.  And at #3 doubles, Dylan Markey and Liam Groden played an outstanding match for an 8-0 win. 

The singles followed suit.  At #1 Richey King rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win while his brother Bobby cleaned up at 6-0, 6-0 at #2.  At #3 singles, Sankeerth Gandhari was perfect, 6-0, 6-0, and at # 4 singles George Colombo finished off his opponent, 6-0 6-3. To end the evening, Aaram Salam and Liam Groden both won their matches in shortened play, 6-0, 6-0.

This win sends the boys to the Missouri State Team Championships for only the third time in school history.  As reigning Class 1 state champs, the Knights were bumped up to Class 2 competition and will see their first-ever Final Four in two weekends at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

May 19 and 20, the three individual district winners, Sankeerth Gandhari in singles and Richey and Bobby King, will represent the Knights in the Missouri Individual State Championships.
