The boys tennis team had a successful day at one of the Midwest's most challenging tournaments on Monday, April 25.
In a flighted singles and doubles tournament, the Knights finished with multiple medallists.
In a tough A singles bracket, Sankeerth Gandhari lost his first round to a strong Blue Valley West seed, but went on to defeat Lawrence Free State, 8-1 and followed with a win against Blue Valley, 8-1. Sankeerth finished with a convincing 5th place win against Park Hill, 8-1.
In B singles, Dylan Markey finished 2-2 with wins in the consolation bracket against Manhattan High School and Lee's Summit North, the last in a tiebreak 7-6.
The strongest showings were in doubles. In the B bracket, George Colombo and Aaram Salam dominated in the first round against Lee's Summit West, 8-2. The boys brought their best tennis to the quarterfinals where they beat a strong Blue Valley North team, 8-6. After a semi-final loss to Blue Valley Northwest, George and Aaram started out strong, but lost 5-3 to Blue Valley West, securing a 4th place medal.
In the A doubles, Richey and Bobby King jumped 8-0 on Lee's Summit North in the first round and defeated a Manhattan pair, 8-0 in the second. They dominated the semifinals against a strong Pembroke Hill team 6-2, 6-2 and moved into the championship round against a solid pair from Rockhurst. Richey and Bobby used strong serves and even better service returns to win the first set 6-2, In the second set, the boys fell behind Rockhurst 2-3 before dominating the net to run off 4 in a row for a 6-2, 6-3 become KC Invitational doubles champs.
