World Language Students End Year with High Honors

Upper school Chinese, French and Spanish language students earned honors for their achievements this week, including a freshman who received a perfect score on the National French Contest.
Lilly Kennedy Gregg, grade 9, earned a Platinum Award in Le Grand Councours. It is the top honor for the Kansas City chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French and places her in the national rankings.

National Spanish Examination Results

Congratulations to Spanish language students who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2021 National Spanish Examinations. Students earned two gold, five silver and nine bronze medals, along with 19 honorable mentions across three levels.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams. “The exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 55,000 students participating in 2021.”

Barstow students, taught by Amanda Marvin, have a long history of high achievement on these exams. The National Spanish Examinations, administered each year in grades 6 through 12, are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

National Chinese Honor Society Induction
Congratulations to the Chinese language students who were inducted into the National Chinese Honor Society. The National Chinese Honor Society recognizes students who demonstrate citizenship, leadership and community service and encourages members to become life-long learners to gain a better understanding of Chinese language and culture.
