Tennis Heads to District Competition

Blue Spring Tournament, April 30
The tennis team had a busy end of last week as they competed in the Blue Spring Tournament on Friday, April 30, taking second place overall. Richey King competed in A Singles and won the championship 6-0, 6-1, while while teammate Sunil Reiland competed in B Singles and won 10-3 against Pembroke Hill and won Blue Spring South 10-1. Sunil overcame a tough tiebreaker to take second place to Pembroke Hill.

In doubles, Dylan Markey and Sankeerth Gandhari defeated Warrensburg 10-1 then took a loss to Pembroke Hill's number 1 doubles team. The duo came back to defeat Pembroke Hill's number 2 doubles team 10-6 for a second place win. Matthew Justis and George Colombo defeated Warrensburg 10-3 in their first round. 

The tennis team edged past Blue Valley North on Tuesday, May 4
The tennis team defeated Blue Valley North 5-4. George Colombo and Sunny Gandhari, at number 1 doubles, lead the way with an 8-3 win. Number 2 doubles Matthew Justis and Dylan Markey also won 8-4. After those wins, the team only needed three wins in their singles matches to take the competition.

Freshman Sankeerth Gandhari played for the first time as number 1 in singles and dominated his match with an 8-2 victory. Aaram Salam provided the next win with an 806 victory over the Mustangs. With a tied competition, Dylan Markey rallied from behind to win his tiebreaker 8-7 and secures the team win. 

The team will now travel to Excelsior Springs on Saturday, May 8, for the District 13 Individual Singles and Doubles Tournament. First and second place winners will advance to sectionals. The team competition will begin Tuesday, May 11 at Barstow where the boys will play with a well earned number 1 seed in team semifinals.
