The Barstow School Appoints Vice President of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity
The Barstow School has appointed Ryann Galloway Tacha to the position of Vice President of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity.
Tacha joined Barstow in 2014 as Alumni and Annual Fund Officer and became Director of Advancement in 2018. She is an active member of the school’s Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Committee, which expanded in 2020 to examine admission, employment, curriculum and outreach practices and make recommendations to the President and Board of Trustees.
“The Board of Trustees and I are pleased that Ryann will lead our continuing efforts to strengthen school inclusiveness, achieve greater diversity and broaden our curriculum with voices often unheard,” said Board Chairman Joel Brous. “The creation of this position signifies our commitment to and focus on these important issues.”
Tacha will develop and help implement a school-wide inclusion, diversity and equity strategy. She will oversee efforts to strengthen Barstow’s commitment to a culturally competent curriculum that promotes understanding and respect for all races, ethnicities, gender identities and faiths.
“This work is extremely important to me,” Tacha said. “I am excited to support our community’s efforts in making sure each person feels valued and seen.”
Prior to joining Barstow, Tacha served as major gifts officer for New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and as a development associate at The Allen-Stevenson School in New York and The Lawrenceville School, her alma mater, in New Jersey. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Art History from Wheaton College, where she founded the Renaissance House, an organization for women of color in leadership positions. She is currently an executive board member of the Lawrence Arts Center and serves on the Leawood Chamber Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
“Ryann is a respected leader with a talent for facilitating communication at every level of the school. Her relationships with faculty and staff, trustees, parents, alumni and students will inform her work as Vice President of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity,” President Shane Foster said. “Inclusive and globally connected learning is part of our promise to families. Character development is included in our school’s mission statement. The creation of Ryann’s position is a natural progression of those principles.”
Tacha will begin her new position in July, while facilitating a transition in the Office of Advancement. Jennifer Dreiling, currently Vice President of External Advancement, will become Vice President of Advancement. Dreiling will oversee fundraising, special events and alumni relations.
