Lower & Middle School Writers Win Essay Contest

Two more students have earned awards for their essays about an event that preceded the American Revolution.
Sydney Westphal, grade 6, and Eshan Patel, grade 7, wrote about the 1770 Boston Massacre for the annual essay contest sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Mission Hills DAR chapter awarded Sydney and Eshan first place in their grade levels. Shreeya Iyer, grade 5, was previously recognized as the chapter's fifth grade winner. Chapter Regent Jeri Kling delivered certificates to grade 5 teacher Joanie Mortell on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Last month, the Shawnee Mission DAR chapter contest announced that three Barstow students won its essay contest: Anya Reddy, grade 5, Lucy McEachen, grade 6, and Soren Gupta, grade 7.
