Does Birds of Prey surpass the standards expected by the superhero fans?
DC is back at it again with another release of a film which displays a varied acting, punchy pathos, and a good plot. Birds of Prey was released February 7, 2020. After Joker’s release in October of 2019, DC was rewarded immensely for the phenomenal acting done by Joaquin Phoenix. He even won an Oscar. Several movie critics claimed that this movie should be one to avoid as it appeared to be an insufficient attempt to make another “Suicide Squad” type of movie. However, while some claim it to be a simple cover up made my DC Films, others believe it to be a phenomenal comeback after the release of Suicide Squad in 2016.

Birds of Prey is sequel to Suicide Squad, which received mixed reviews. It opens to the breakup between Harley Quinn and the Joker, and follows Quinn as people in Gotham seek revenge for the calamities she caused them. Because she was the Joker’s girlfriend, Quinn was able to use her status to whatever ends she saw fit; however, now that Quinn is no longer with the Joker, that leaves her vulnerable. The story continues further as she meets different assassins who help her stay safe in the city.

Prominent actor Margot Robbie played the lead role of Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey. She displayed remarkable acting for such a unique and interesting character as Harley Quinn: a chaotic force unbound by societal convention. Robbie had to master Quinn’s accent and wild demeanor. She set forth phenomenal effort and was able to successfully master the character, giving the movie an interesting touch.

Not only did the movie receive a nomination from the American Society of Cinematographers for the Outstanding Achievement award, but it also received an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. Overall, Birds of Prey displayed excellent qualities all around. While this may not mean DC is out of the dog house, it is certainly a promising step in the right direction for DC fans.
