STUDENT ENGINEERS TAKE FIRST AT DESIGN COMPETITION

Upper school Engineering Design and Robotics (EDR) students competed at the annual KU High School Design Competition on Wednesday, Oct. 23, and one team won first place in its event.
Seniors Sean Matthews and Francis Feng and sophomore Ayushi Kothari won the Chemical Engineering Challenge, in which they had to construct a device using mechanical and chemical processes to absorb oil from a simulated spill.

Another Barstow team competed in the Civil Engineering Challenge, during which they constructed a five-foot balsa wood bridge capable of holding increasing amounts of weight.

About 350 students from schools throughout Kansas and Missouri participated in a variety of engineering challenges during the event, hosted by the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program at KU.
