The girls tennis team took on defending 6A 2019 state champions Blue Valley North on Tuesday and dropped a hard fought match 1-8. In singles the the girls played hard with the most competitive play from Hope Leathers at #3 pushing the match to a 5-5 tie before losing 5-8. In doubles Mia Sabapathy and Hope stayed close early before losing 3-8.
The highlight match of the afternoon came at #1 doubles where freshmen Sarena Biria and Mary Colombo played an outstanding veteran doubles team. With a strong baseline game and dominating net play, the Lady Knights jumped out to a 5-2 lead. BVN fought back to tie the set at 7-7, before Mary and Sarena regained their aggressive net play and finished off with an impressive 9-7 win.
The girls take on District challenger Notre Dame de Sion today at Minor Park at 4:30, then prepare for the Barstow Fall Invitationa tournament at Minor Park on Friday.
