KNIGHTS DEFEAT BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH

The Barstow boys tennis team took on true Blue Springs South Jaguars amidst cold and high winds yesterday  and came away with a solid 6-3 victory.  The boys picked up their first two points with a 8-1 win at #1 doubles, Richey King and Sunil Reiland, and a close 9-8 (8-6) tiebreaker win by Jordan Herwig and Saketh Dendi.
At #1 singles Richey King shook off a slow start down by a game early and won 6 in a row for a 10=5 victory and Sunil Reiland playing some of his best tennis of the year had little trouble at #2 with a 10-1 win.  With the match in the balance and all of the courts close, Matthew Justis secured the team’s 5th and decisive point with a 10-4 win.
But the highlight match of the day was at #4 singles where senior Jordan Herwig decided that arctic temperatures and high winds should be enjoyed even longer and took the final match of the day into a long and nail biting tiebreaker, outslugging his opponent for a 11-10 (8-6) victory.   This gives the squad the four days to thaw out before their next match Monday against Maranatha for the Crossroads Conference championship.
