SPEECH TEAM MAKES BOLD MOVES AT RAY-PEC TOURNAMENT
The middle school speech team called on perseverance and problem-solving skills to finish strong at the Ray-Pec Tournament on Friday, March 1.
Several students on the team could not attend the tournament, so teammates and substitutes stepped in to fill new or unfamiliar roles.
Eighth graders Simon Connor and Freddie Graham, on loan from the debate team, made it to the finals in novice public forum debate despite limited time to prepare. Eight other entries advanced to finals. Here are the results:
Abby Loptaofsky: eighth place, Prose
Sunny Gandhari: seventh place, Impromptu Speaking and sixth place, Original Oratory
David Guldin: fifth place, Impromptu Speaking
Sidney Zinkus: fifth place, Poetry
Ahna Chang and Maggie Toppass: fourth place, Humorous Duet Acting
Maggie: third place, Original Oratory
Sidney: second place, Original Oratory
Simon Connor and Freddie Graham: second place, Novice Public Forum Debate
The team finished third in the small schools division, but more importantly, Coach Scott Guldin said they worked together, took some risks and overcame challenges along the way.
Congratulations on a great finish and for making us #barstowproud.
