SENIORS EARN ART AND WRITING AWARDS

Three seniors received national recognition for achievement in art and writing from the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers this week. Alex Archer, Tao Liu and Kission Xiong won Scholastic Silver and Gold Keys.
Scholastic recognized Archer with the Gold Key, its highest award, in the 2019 Missouri Writing Region for her dramatic script, “Sunrise/Sunset.” Her piece was selected from over 900 submissions received from Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas. It will be published in “Missouri Youth Write,” an online publication available in June. Archer also received three Silver Keys and three honorable mentions.

Judges viewed over 1600 visual art submissions from students in the Missouri and Kansas area. Xiong won two silver keys for her work, “Blind for One Day” and “Youth.” Liu won Gold Keys for his charcoal drawing, “Bone Structure,” and for his portfolio of eight self-portraits titled “Who Am I?”

Gold Key winners advance to the national competition. Winners will be announced on the Scholastic website on March 13.
