Ethan Doskey

2018
Ethan Doskey '18 submitted his play Past, Wrapped for review at The Theatre School at DePaul University during his junior year and recently received the news that his play will be showcased as a studio production. The show collides psychological drama with the genres of thrillers, "memory plays," absurdism, trance film, documentary, and film noir.
Past, Wrapped follows two estranged former classmates, Maya and Nicholas, who reconnect to film a documentary and find answers about their relationship and fractured families. As their histories unfurl, they debate and question their recollections. Past, Wrapped asks how our memories control us and whether we ever change at our core. Can we escape our ghosts? What is our pain tolerance for seeking the truth?

Ethan says, "I consider myself incredibly lucky to have come into The Theatre School with the writing and theatrical experience Barstow gave me. I'm especially thankful for the opportunities Bob Kohler entrusted in me from a young age. When I was a Junior in high school, Mr. Kohler commissioned me to write a play for our theatre troupe to bring to the Kansas City and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. The adventure that ensued was life-altering and convinced me that playwriting was my calling. Having the chance to see something you wrote get performed on stage is invaluable and I owe a lot of my journey to everyone from Barstow who encouraged me to take big leaps. This one's for you!"

Ethan will graduate in June with a BFA in Playwriting with minors in Photography and Film Production from The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.
