Joe Biden has chosen Kamala Harris as his running mate for the 2020 President Election.

Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential running mate for the 2020 Presidential Election. Harris was a former rival to Mr. Biden and even sharply criticized him in the Democractic primaries, but emerged after ending her campaign. She brings to the race a far more vigorous campaign style than Mr. Biden’s, including a gift for capturing moments of political intensity on the debate stage and elsewhere. She also also has a personal identity and family story that many find inspiring.

Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964 in Oakland California. Her Jamaican father taught at Stanford University while her Indian mother was a cancer researcher. Her younger sister Maya was born three years later and became an American lawyer, and a public policy advocate. Like her sister, Kamala Harris studied political science and economics at Howard University earning a law degree from Hastings College. About a year later, she earned a reputation of fortitude as she prosecuted many cases varying from gang violence to sexual abuse in her time as the deputy district attorney in Oakland.

Harris rose through the ranks, becoming district attorney in 2004. During her first three years as district attorney, San Francisco’s conviction rate jumped from 52 to 67 percent. In 2010, she was elected attorney general of California, becoming the first African Woman to hold the position. She was recruited to run for the U.S Senate seat in early 2015 and easily won the 2016 election. Harris was sworn in as a United States senator for California, the second African-American woman and first South Asian-American senator in history. As a senator, she has advocated for healthcare reform, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and a progressive tax reform. She gained a national profile for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings

Mr. Biden was insistent that his running mate would need to be “simpatico” with him on critical present day issues, as well as having a broader vision for how to lead the nation. He needs the same kind of trusting relationship that he had with former president Barack Obama. Kamala Harris is more than qualified to fill this position, and the pair make a phenomenal campaign.

B-Line's origins date back to 1897, when students published "The School Paper," from Barstow's Quality Hill campus. It was published under various names in following decades, including "The Cornpatch," when Barstow moved to State Line in 1961. Today, B-Line is primarily a digital publication.

Bio
Ms. Scott is an expert in communications, both spoken and written. Besides leading the staff of student journalists at B-Line, she teaches Advanced Debate and middle school Introduction to Debate, International Studies and Current Events.

She attended high school in the Wichita area where she occupied herself with debate and writing. Ms. Scott obtained her degree in secondary education (speech/ theatre) with a minor in communication studies from Kansas State University. She received her master’s degree in communication from Baylor University in 2018.

She believes every student should be a capable communicator and self-advocate shaping their own future. She finds that both mass communication settings like B-Line and rhetorical settings like debate prepare students for their future.
