As middle school students steadily build science, technology, engineering and math skills in STEAM electives this semester, the VEX Robotics class combined everything they’ve learned to complete in a game called “Stacks and Whacks.”
The object of the game is to build and program a robot that can complete a series of challenges to score points during a 90-second team competition. Teams worked together to design, build and code their robots. Between rounds, they retooled and refined their designs and solved problems with their programs.
The competition was fierce, but friendly in Mr. Wood’s classroom. Teams scored points for moving their robots around the playing field to pick up cones and stack them in corners, to flip levers on posts around the perimeter and to climb a tower in the final 20 seconds.
