Shane Foster's journey to Barstow as President began in 1983, when he received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Tasmania in Australia. He earned a Master of Education in 1992 from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Science from Concordia University in 1998. Mr. Foster began his teaching career in 1985 as a physical education and primary school teacher at Sacred Heart School in Tasmania.
From 1988-98, Mr. Foster served at Wayland Academy, a coeducational boarding/day school in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, as an English and history teacher, Dean of Students, Director of the Residential Programs, Chair of Judicial Committee, Director of Leadership Camps and Chair of the Retention Committee. In 1998, Foster began serving Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in Suffolk, Virginia, as Upper School Headmaster. He became Barstow Head of School in 2005 and President in 2019.
Mr. Foster also has extensive experience in athletics. He served as Wayland Academy Athletic Director from 1991 to 1996. He has coached softball, volleyball, track, girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer. He served as State Representative to the Australian Track Championships from 1980 to 1986. He personally holds the title of Tasmanian Decathlon Champion (1980 to 1984) and was nationally ranked in Australia in discus and decathlon in 1983 and 1984.
Foster has served on a number of boards related to education including the Tasmanian State Board of Education and Independent School boards.
