THANK YOU! Saturday, October 13, was a great day to be a Barstow Knight. Not just in name, but in its very essence, the first annual Mind Body Character 5K was the embodiment of Barstow’s mission, “to promote sound scholarship and to give symmetrical development to mind, body and character.” The 375 runners and walkers ranged in age from 8 weeks to 93 years. The winning time, posted by Barstow parent and alum Sean Hart ’87 was 20:00. The last participant crossed the finish line with a time of 58:01. Almost 25 percent of participants were not affiliated with Barstow, they simply wanted a fun Saturday run. And 40 people volunteered to make this event go off without a hitch. Even Mother Nature participated, holding back the rain.
Last winter, Deb ’86 And Brent Walz approached us to suggest this event and offered to chair it. Their passion and dedication not only made this event a financial success (over $14,000 raised and still counting!) but it brought our community together in a new and different way. Events like this are a gift to our school, and the Walz family is a gift to us as well. Deb and Brent, thank you --for your unending support of Barstow and for this wonderful new celebration of our mission!
