experience by developing the ability to connect time, experience, intellect, and emotion to our daily lives. Two dimensional art, three dimensional art, vocal music, including music appreciation and music theory, and drama at Barstow are all outlets in which to explore and enhance this experience. The students, through the fine arts, are encouraged to value their own contributions as well as those of previous cultures.

Barstow's sequential and traditional fine arts curriculum provides students with a historical background, as well as the skills, techniques, and concepts necessary for success today and in the future. The age appropriate curricular goals and methods are clearly defined, yet flexible The divisional programs are constantly searching for meaningful and creative enrichment activities to integrate art activities with other academic departments.

The Julia Whitney Creative Arts Fund was established in 1997 to Enrich the experience of the arts for all Barstow students. To date, the Fund has provided the visual arts in Elementary Division, Junior Division and Upper School with visiting artists, field trips and a summer scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute for a chosen Barstow art student after his or her junior year.

At Barstow we think creativity and discipline exercised in the arts are essential to student's growth and emotional maturity. Exploration of the arts helps to instill discipline, industry, poise and self-respect-all valuable life lessons.
