Good manners never go out of style. That's what my mom taught me and I see it around Barstow all the time. Students hold doors, say please and thank you, take turns. So do faculty. It makes this a pleasant and civil place to be every day.
In keeping with that, I wanted to take a minute to say thank you to some people/departments. Thanks to the Development and Alumni Relations Department – Pat, Anne and Laura truly make giving money an enjoyable experience. Did you get the Annual Fund appeal with young Mr. Babbott's look of total shock? I laughed out loud when I saw it.
Thank you to the Booster Club and BPA leaders. Without these parent support groups Barstow would be so much less. Thank you to Julie Byrne. Never, ever does Julie Byrne come to school with anything less than complete enthusiasm. Or at least she never lets the kids know she does. Her positive energy is a model. Thank you to all the parents who offered to help at upcoming Admission events. What you say, and the sincerity with which you share it, is priceless.
We have a lot for which to be thankful here at The Barstow School. Here's I bit of what I witnessed in our school this week:
- Let's hear it for the women's sports teams!!! Golf and tennis at state! What wonderful examples for our younger female students. Way to go ladies, I'm proud of you.
- Middle schoolers learned about creating and implementing environmental policy when alum and current parent, Al Mauro, visited Sarah Holmes' Environmental Studies class this week. Who's ready to bike to school with me?
- The third grade has some very fun Haiku poems and classmate Venn diagrams displayed in the North Pod right now. Stop by and take a look.
- Upper School is getting ready to kick off the drive for City Union Mission in conjunction with next week's musical, plus the Operation Breakthrough Diaper Drive is in full swing. I love all of the service activities our students plan.
Go Knights!
